World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October. It was created by United Nations in 1945 in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization. This day is about recognizing the worldwide problem of hunger and promoting actions against it. Particularly, this year theme was the Family Farming: “Feeding the world, caring for the earth”. All around the world people come together to declare their commitment to raise awareness and call for changes to our agriculture and food supply systems. However, it is not just about donating food to the world’s hungry and undernourished peoples. It is about doing something to help them in solving the problem at the root cause.
Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci has a strong commitment in promoting an healthy and sustainable life and feeding style. In this moment, this is noticeably realised through the activities implemented by SlowMed project, which aims to popularize Mediterranean Diet as a way to promote intercultural dialogue. Starting from the idea that the food is a fundamental part of the culture and a powerful instrument to develop relations between people, SlowMed is raising awareness on the importance of healthy nutrition and culinary heritage, following the path towards sustainable nutrition in the world.
