ROBIN – Local meeting with the social workers and educators working with migrants

After a year from the beginning of the project ROBIN – Reinforcing cOmpetences to Build Inclusion through a New learning methodology CSC Danilo Dolci held a public event to inform all the local actors interested in the topic – teachers, educators working with migrants, social workers, local associations’ representatives, project managers – about the results reached so far and the next steps of the project.

The event took place on 20th of October 2016 in Moltivolti’s coworking space, in Via Mario Puglia, 21 in Palermo and was attended by many operators in the field of welcoming and education of minor migrants in Palermo and its surroundings and it was the occasion to talk and debate about a number of topics, such as:

  • What are the second chance programs in Europe and Italy;
  • What is the situation of welcoming and education of minor migrants in Palermo and Sicily;
  • The concept of Early School Leaving and its implications at local, national and European level;
  • The benefit of Non Formal Education as a valuable tool to combat early school leaving and to promote the integration of different groups of students, such as especially the ones with diverse cultural backgrounds and disadvantaged social situations.

During the afternoon the output developed during the first phase of the project have been presented, namely the Research study on the current methodologies used within second chance programmes in Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria and Spain and the Need Analysis of the operators working in the field, aimed at identify the main factors of interest and the competences to be developed during the second phase of the project.

The last part of the meeting, in fact, was dedicated to the presentation of the structure of the training program for educators that will start from February with several sessions which will involve till a maximum of 100 beneficiaries. The course will be aimed at transferring methodologies and non-formal activities to reinforce the competences of operators working with minor migrants, providing them with new tools to address as more efficiently as possible the particular needs or their targets. Currently the partners are working on the finalisation of the new integrated learning methodology for the inclusion, collecting different educational approaches and strategies tested by the experience of the organisations partners in this project.
