Functional illiteracy is an issue that interests a staggering number of adults in Europe. A person is a functional illiterate when they do have a minimum schooling level (e.g. reading and writing), but they have difficulties in putting it to use in their daily lives.
The DECENT project sets to reach out to low skilled adults who are at risk of social exclusion (long-term unemployed, threatened by poverty, poorly educated) and adult education institutions in order to contribute to the improvement of their literacy and numeracy skills.
The 6th and 7th of November the partners of DECENT have met for their fourth transnational meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The meeting was an important occasion for partners to, on one hand, draw lessons from the first year of the project, and on the other to exchange ideas and contributions aimed at the successful implementation of DECENT in its second year.
In particular, the DECENT partners have discussed in detail the contents of the 6 modules of the “Decent life without illiteracy” course, and have started setting the basis for the contents of the Open Educational Resource (OER), which will be developed at a later stage.
After the Nicosia meeting, the partners are ready and enthusiastic to keep up the good work and continue working towards the successful implementation of DECENT.
DECENT – Digital strategies of Enhancement of the basic skills among adults as a ChancE to fight agaiNst functional illiteracy aims at increasing the effectiveness of the fight against the functional illiteracy among low qualified adults who are at risk of social exclusion in Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain and Italy.
The project has a duration of 24 months and is funded by Erasmus+, KA2 Strategic Partnerships for adult education.
