A warm sun welcomed the representatives of the SUSTAIN project in Romania, where the 4th project meeting was held, in Targoviste, city in the south of Romania, one hour far from the capital Bucureşti. Among the several historical facts that involved the city, it is to be mentioned that in 1989, after the fall of the Soviet Empire, the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauseşcu was executed there’.
Today Targoviste hosts several educational structures, and among these the “Universitatea Valahiadin Targoviste” is a partner of SUSTAIN project.
From 14th to 16th March the representatives from Bulgaria, Turkey and Italy had the possibility to discuss about the project, its progresses and the next initiatives. The talks about the management of the project have been alternated by pleasant moments spent in visiting some Romanian schools like the art school “Lady Balasa”, where music, graphic art, painting and sculpture are taught along with traditional lesson programmes. Our tour of the school ended with a tribute prepared by students in occasion of our visit: young players of piano, cello, guitar and drums, have preceded the exhibition of the school choir, that sang a cappella some songs related to the local tradition.
The meeting with the local teachers already involved in the project was a very important moment. They were invited to exchange ideas with experts, talk about lesson plans concerning the topics related to Education and Sustainable Development and about the implementation stage in their classes. It was very interesting to see the concrete results of the work made by children, understanding their response to the proposed activities and receiving enthusiastic comments from teachers about the suggested lesson plans.
The quality of the work made so far and the positive response in occasion of the several meetings underline the importance of sharing the project results with as many educators and teachers as possible.
The next meeting of SUSTAIN project will be held on 30th April in Maggiore Guida school in Partinico. The teachers and anyone interested in the project are invited to attend this meeting to have the opportunity of knowing the learning tools offered by the project.
