SOCIAL INCLUSION THROUGH GAMES FOR ALL AGES: THE FINAL EVENT of Best Friends

Dec 23, 2022News

Promoting initiatives that stimulate social inclusion in our communities is important for building a more cohesive society. Intergenerational and game-based learning are two useful tools for engaging people of all ages.

This was precisely the main objective of the BEST FRIENDS project, which ends on 30 December 2022 after two years of activities aimed at promoting social cohesion and interaction between elderly people and young children.

To present the results achieved at a local level, we organized an informative event for older people, carers for the elderly, early childhood educators and general public. During the first part of the event, we explored the Italian and European situation on the social inclusion of elderly people and on how to deal with situations of exclusion.

Then we talked about the results developed during the project: the European Report on the current needs of older people and those who work with them, the training program for intergenerational learning, the collection of games for social participation and the handbook for promotion of results.

The participants were then informed on how to use the e-learning platform available on the project website, in order to consult all the results according to their interests and share them with other interested parties. The final phase of the event served to allow the participants to share their opinions on the theme of the project, to express their idea on the methodology developed and to dialogue together during an organized reception with food and drinks.

Best Friends Against Ageism – Intergenerational workshops between old people and children to brake the isolation of elderly people and support their social inclusion is co-funded by the Erasmus + program (Key Action 2: Strategic Partnerships | Adult Education) and aims to combat the isolation and social exclusion of older people and to provide an innovative method for social workers, volunteers and educators who work with older people to foster intergenerational learning.
