Description of the project
Children enrolled in second chance schools are mostly underqualified early-school leavers, who do not have access to employment and lack basic social skills to adequately integrate into society, thus making them more vulnerable and exposed to abuse, exploitation and human trafficking.
Many of them have migrant background. In order to prevent these children also dropping out of second chance classes, there is a need for simulative teaching methodologies to support educators working with them.
ROBIN aims to address these needs by developing an innovative learning methodology that will reinforce educators’ capacities to support children on the move enrolled in second chance programmes to complete their education and integrate successfully into society.
The project addresses the horizontal priority of strengthening education and training paths of educators and youth workers, as it brings innovation to the current learning methodologies by developing an integrated learning methodology that ensures active learning, coaching and support based on experiential learning by means of psychosocial activities.
The project addresses the sectorial priority of Adult educators’ competences as it aims to improve the social, technical, personal and methodological competences of adult educators, through the use of the developed integrated learning methodology. Its specific tools would enable their trainees to better respond to the needs of children with migrant background enrolled in second chance programs.

|O1 – Research study on the current methodologies used within second chance programmes
A Research study about the state of art related to this field in Italia, Romania, Austria, Bulgaria and Spain, to analyse how the concept of Second Chance is understood in the different countries, how the programs active in this specific sector are structured and which methodologies are used to promote the integration of minor migrants in the educational sector.
|O2 – Needs Analysis Report on Methodologies used within Second Chance Programmes
A Need analysis developed through the organization of focus groups with around 50 teachers and educators and the analysis of the opinion of other 250 of them though online questionnaires.
|O3 – Curriculum of the Integrated Learning Methodology
The ROBIN training curriculum is the base of ROBIN`s integrated learning methodology, which is a collection of training materials and methodological suggestions for the implementation in second chance educational measures. The curriculum is organized in nine teaching modules that represent learning areas essential to be embraced by second chance education. The selection of the modules has been made on the basis of the findings of the needs assessment conducted with education professionals in 5 different European countries- Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Romania and Spain.
|O4 – The New Integrated learning methodology based on experiential learning by means of psychosocial activities (Pilot version)
The methodology supports teachers in understanding better the learning needs of their students and would offer them tools in order to respond appropriately to these needs. Educators, as target groups of the methodology, will develop personal, social, methodological and technical skills that will support them to deliver their own subjects based on the learning needs of the students. The learning objectives were established within the curriculum on the basis of the information gathered from the focus groups, online questionnaires and in depth interviews with the educators.
|O5 – The New Integrated learning methodology based on experiential learning by means of psychosocial activities (Final version)
The methodology supports teachers in understanding better the learning needs of their students and would offer them tools in order to respond appropriately to these needs. Educators, as target groups of the methodology, will develop personal, social, methodological and technical skills that will support them to deliver their own subjects based on the learning needs of the students. The pilot version of the methodology (O4) has been tested with 20 educators in each partner country, improved according to their feedbacks, for the elaboration of this final version.
|O6 – Handbook of the ROBIN methodology
The final handbook comprises all the training modules of the developed integrated learning methodology together with examples and best practices derived from the implementation in all partner countries. This handbook is a useful tool for other adult educators who train not only educators, but also other people who come in contact with children on the move such as school directors, caregivers, child care professionals, social workers. Adult educators get acquainted with the new methodology being able to implement it themselves. The handbook is a practical tool, with a detailed description of each training step described in the modules, with a precise unfolding of the activities (including theoretical discussions and practical exercises).
