Every day, often without realising it, we are immersed in a constant flow of information. Social media, news outlets, WhatsApp groups, YouTube videos \u2014 all of these shape the way we see the world. But how much of that information is actually reliable?<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer, unfortunately, is less reassuring than we might hope.<\/span><\/p>\n

Disinformation \u2014 the intentional spread of false or distorted content \u2014 has become one of the greatest challenges of our time. And with the rise of artificial intelligence, the problem has grown even more complex: today, fake texts, images and videos can be created in seconds, virtually indistinguishable from real ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do we find our way? How can we tell whether what we are reading is true or false? How do we protect ourselves from the psychological mechanisms that make us more vulnerable to fake news?<\/span><\/p>\n

Giulia Pozzi \u2013 NewsGuard Italy<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Giulia Pozzi, Deputy Editorial Director of NewsGuard in Italy, will guide us through the technological mechanisms that fuel disinformation. How do algorithms amplify fake news? What can AI do to create \u2014 and to counter \u2014 false content? Drawing on her experience at the United Nations in New York and a fellowship at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, Pozzi brings a world-class international perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n

Disinformation works because it exploits weaknesses in the way our brains work. Lisa Avarello, project manager and facilitator specialising in non-formal education and critical thinking, will explain which psychological mechanisms make us vulnerable to false information \u2014 and how we can learn to recognise them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The role of artificial intelligence in information production and consumption<\/strong><\/h6>\n

Andrea Maria Rapisarda Mattarella \u2013 Journalist, UniPA<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

A registered journalist with experience in television, radio and print media, Andrea Maria Rapisarda Mattarella will explore how AI is changing the habits through which we produce and consume information, and what this means for the quality of journalism and for us as readers.<\/p>\n
