\nFebruary 1952.<\/strong> Danilo Dolci arrives in Trappeto (Pa), a fishing and farming village in Partinico-Montelepre (in which after the world war poverty created banditry against Italian State). He collaborates with other people.<\/p>\n

14 0ctober 1952.<\/strong> He fasts for a week, in Mimmo and Giustina\u2019s home, where a baby dies, for the involvement of Sicilian government to engage people. (Aldo Capitini\u2019s first letter arrives to Danilo Dolci).<\/p>\n

1953-\u201954.<\/strong> School and \u00a0house are built in Borgo for the poorest children and a popular University with some volunteers.<\/p>\n

October 1955.<\/strong> \u201cBanditi a Partinico\u201d is published by Laterza editor. It\u2019s an important document about area\u2019s condition. Danilo Dolci fasts for a week in Partinico for the creation of the dam on the river Jato.<\/p>\n

30 January 1956.<\/strong> Hunger strike on San Cataldo (Trappeto) beach with farmer and fishermen, to fight against illegal fishing and to prepare…<\/p>\n

2 Febbraio 1956.<\/strong> \u2026the strike in reverse in Partinico, with hundreds of unemployed, to rebuild old trazzera. In this occasion, he refers to labour right and the art. 4 of the Italian Constitution. Danilo (is considered like \u201c a man with the ability to break the law\u201d) and 4 union organizer stayed in Ucciardone jail for two months.<\/p>\n

30 August 1956.<\/strong> \u201cTrial against art.4\u201d is published by Einaudi: it\u2019s a document about facts and the process (after the strike in reverse). Piero Calamandrei\u2019s defence is unforgettable. Danilo is released for \u201c particular moral value\u201d.<\/p>\n

December 1956.<\/strong> First edition of inquiry in Palermo (Einaudi), a popular self-analysis on underemployment in the area: \u201chow does he\/she try to survive if she\/he hasn\u2019t a true work?\u201d<\/p>\n

15 December 1956.<\/strong> Collective hunger strike in Palermo and in three town in the Province of Palermo to denounce poverty.
\n1-2-3 November 1957.<\/strong> \u201cConference for full employment\u201d in Palermo, with the participation of Italian and foreign specialists, economist, sociologist and urban planner.
\n7-19 November 1957.<\/strong> Danilo and Franco Alasia fast in Cortile Cascino (Pa), after the \u201cConference for full employment\u201d, to denounce the bad situation in the poorest area in Palermo and to highlight the results of the Conference.
\n6 April 1958.<\/strong> Politics for full employment is published by Einaudi: studies and presences in the Conference. The term of \u201cfull employment\u201d is introduced for the first time in Italy.<\/p>\n

May 1958.<\/strong> The \u201c Centre for Studies an Initiatives for full employment\u201d is founded in Partinico, that increases his activity in Roccamena, Corleone, Menfi, Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini. Friends group are formed overall in Italy, Switzerland, England, Sweden, Germany.
\n27-28-29 April 1960.<\/strong> \u201cConference on hygienic-sanitary conditions in a undeveloped area in Western Sicily\u201d in Palma di Montechiaro (Ag) in collaboration with Dr. Pampiglione.
\n25 June 1960.<\/strong> Einaudi editor publishes \u201cSpreco\u201d, socioeconomic self-analysis on Western Sicily.<\/p>\n

30 May 1962.<\/strong> \u201cConversations\u201d is published: it\u2019s a document of the structural method in the meeting with simple people.<\/p>\n

7 September 1962.<\/strong> The last Danilo Dolci hunger strike in Spine Sante for the dam on the river Jato, attended by a popular manifestation. After nine days, the \u201cCassa per il Mezzogiorno\u201d decides for\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 dam\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 rebuild.
\n14 November 1962.<\/strong> Michele Mandiello\u2019 work is productive. The Cooperative \u201cCantina\u201d Social \u201cThe Progress\u201d is founded in Mirto. The wine property values 300 millions.
\n27 February 1963.<\/strong> Beginning of dam on the river Jato works.
\n29 October 1963.<\/strong> Fast days in Roccamena for the dam in Belice.
\n7 March 1964.<\/strong> Nonviolent occupation of the municipal building in Roccamena, for the dam in Belice.
\n22 September 1965.<\/strong> Danilo Dolci and Franco Alasia denounce self-analysis\u2019 results about relationship between mafia and \u201cpolitics\u201d, during a press conference, at the Circle Press in Rome.<\/p>\n

20 November 1965.<\/strong> The trial against Danilo and Franco begins after the condemnation by minister, secretary of state and many notable, who have relationship with mafia.
\n10 January 1966.<\/strong> Danilo fasts in Castellammare del Golfo (Tp.). During the week rises the specific relationship between mafia and local politicians.<\/p>\n

September 1966.<\/strong> \u201cChi gioca solo\u201d is published by Einaudi : it includes some antimafia documents and trial events.<\/p>\n

January 1967.<\/strong> The Court of Rome rejects many defence\u2019s witness. Danilo and Franco communicate through a letter to give their defence up and revoke lawyer\u2019s warrant.<\/p>\n

5-11 March 1967.<\/strong> Two hundred kilometres \u201cFor the Western Sicily and for a new world\u201d march .
\n22 June 1967. In Roma Danilo sentences to two years in jail, and Franco Alasia to one year and\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 seven\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 months. They make an appeal.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

20 September 1967.<\/strong> Antimafia protest in front of the Parliament in Rome and at the Commission Antimafia. Public opinion is advised. Notables keep out from the Government.<\/p>\n

1 January 1968.<\/strong> The beginning of the work in Borgo of Trappeto for the \u201c Education Centre\u201d. Significant contribution from Carlo Levi, Bruno Zevi, Paolo Sylos Labini, Siro Bombardini.
\n15 January 1968.<\/strong> The Belice Earthquake. The Centre support intervention in emergency. \u201cComitati amici\u201d help to bring tools of assistance in Corleone, Roccamena, Menfi and Partanna. Borgo di Trappeto works temporarily stop.<\/p>\n

10 February 1968.<\/strong> Borgo restoration works restart. After the earthquake, the new \u201cEducation Centre for organic planning\u201d becomes an important instrument. In the following months, at the Centre people meet for the first time to discuss on development plan.<\/p>\n

15 September 1968.<\/strong> Press Conference in Borgo of Trappeto, in which they show planning on development for earthquake zones. \u00a0It\u2019s the first purpose of organic planning of territory. \u201cFifty days of pressure\u201d for the earthquake zones, discussing about the plastic model in every place. Protest march, collective fasting, strike.<\/p>\n

30 November 1968.<\/strong> \u201cHonorary degree\u201d to Danilo Dolci in Philosophy at Berna University.
\n4 April 1969.<\/strong> Seminar in Trappeto on \u201cTown-territory\u201d, with National and International experts. \u201cInventare il futuro\u201d is published by Laterza, summary document of this experience.
\n6 July 1969.<\/strong> \u201cIl consorzio irriguo Jato\u201d is promoted by the Centre. Mafia local group and also Frank Coppola, that made head of the dam on river Jato (they have water power), now is denounced and isolated. \u00a0Water dam becomes an economic development also for democratic development. People learn to work together.<\/p>\n

7 November 1969.<\/strong> New trial against Danilo Dolci in Trapani, after notable\u2019s denounce of Castellammare del Golfo (Tp). Judge declares \u201c no case to answer\u201d.<\/p>\n

8 January 1970.<\/strong> Thanks to Pino Lombardo begins the work of \u201cCooperativa ortofrutticola\u201d in Partinico. Danilo begins talking about freedom movement and reciprocal maieutic approach \u00a0in Italy and abroad.<\/p>\n

25-26 March 1970.<\/strong> \u201cRadio Libera\u201d the new resistance radio in Partinico. It gives the opportunity to express people ideas. Limone Lunare is a collection of poems. (Laterza Ed.).<\/p>\n

23 November 1970.<\/strong> They sign 10 hectares purchase arbitration agreement in S. Caterina-Mirto, in which they build \u201cExperimental Education Centre\u201d wanted by moms: \u201ca place in which babies could learn\u201d.<\/p>\n

Christmas 1970.<\/strong> Seminar in Trappeto on new Education Centre. The designers are Giancarlo and Giovanna Polo of Milan.<\/p>\n

31 March 1971.<\/strong> They sign Education Centre purchase arbitration agreement. German group of friends, Brot F\u00fcr die Welt. Our friend Martin Niem\u00f6ller says that our educational method isn\u2019t only antimafia but also anti-nazi.<\/p>\n

9-12 April 1971.<\/strong> Borgo of Trappeto: second seminar on Education Centre. Discussion on the first draft of the project. Thanks also to Ernesto Treccani, they have the idea of anti-fascist pressure. Danilo coordinates\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 initiative.
\n28 April 1971.<\/strong> Roma, Penal Code Section I: appeals process against Danilo and Franco.
\n28 November 1971. <\/strong>Anti-fascist action. On\u00a0 November 28th<\/sup> in Rome, there was the most important public\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 demonstration.
\nJanuary-March 1972.<\/strong> Franco La Gennusa, Fifiddu Robino and Pino Lombardo (partner centre) with \u201cAlleanza Coltivatori siciliani\u201d collaborate to fight against local politicians. Meeting with local population- children, boys, parents and teachers- to improve educational method and architectural project for the Education Centre.
\n12 May 1972.<\/strong> The Court of Appeal in Rome rejects all the evidences presented by Danilo and Franco Alasia\u2019s defence attorney against Mattarella-Volpe: Danilo and Franco revoke lawyer\u2019s warrant because \u201c the trial can\u2019t ensure the truth\u201d. They say: \u201ceverybody has the responsibility towards public opinion\u201d.<\/p>\n

July 1972.<\/strong> Creation of Consortium \u201cKronion\u201d and a new collaboration with\u00a0 social \u201ccantine\u201d like \u201cIl Progresso\u201d of Menfi, \u201cGrappolo d\u2019oro\u201d and \u201cEnocarboi\u201d of Sciacca, \u201cTrefiumi\u201d and \u201cAcli\u201d of Ribera, \u201cLa vite\u201d of Santa Margherita Belice, \u201cSambuca di Sicilia\u201d: it\u2019s a work begins in 1958 by our Centre by Michele Mandiello. The cooperative are completely self-managed.<\/p>\n

January 1973.<\/strong> \u201cChiss\u00e0 se i pesci piangono\u201d by Danilo Dolci is published by Einaudi (Torino),: it\u2019s a document on seminar and meeting in Trappeto of 1972, \u201cto confirm or to modify the previous theory\u201d with which they conceive the creation of new Education Centre.
\n3 June 1973.<\/strong> Opening of amphitheatre Education Centre, with a concert of flautist by Edwin Alton (Amico, Chiara, Danila and Libera) and students\u2019 school Abba in Palermo, with other flautist of\u00a0 Partinico.
\nDuring the previous month, the executive project of Education Centre is presented by Polo engineer.
\nJuly 1973.<\/strong> The Court of Appeal of Rome confirm two years and a half for Danilo Dolci and Franco Alasia. But the sentence is remitted.<\/p>\n

26-31 December 1973.<\/strong> A new seminar in Borgo of Trappeto on consultant relationship to clarify some problems related to new Education Centre, with the participation of Johan Galtung, Clotilde and Maurizio Pontecorvo, Jacques Von\u00e8che (Piaget contributor), Gunnar Richardsson and Olle Edelholm.
\n12 January 1974.<\/strong> \u201cPoema umano\u201d is published by Einaudi of Torino.<\/p>\n

February 1974. The beginning of excavation in Santa Caterina-Mirto, starts Education Centre construction. Spring-Summer 1974.<\/strong> Self-managed local process development: \u201cFarmer Alliance\u201d undertakes to do democratic water of the dam on river Jato; Chamber of Work of Trappeto and Artisan Cooperative work; Pino Lombardo plays a significant role in Santa Ninfa rebuild after the earthquake.<\/p>\n

Autumn-Winter 1974.<\/strong> Ferdinand Conrad, Jim Rose and Britta Salzer contribute to educator training interested in experimentation in Mirto.<\/p>\n

7 January 1975.<\/strong> Starts the educational experimentation in an informal way with 2 children groups from 4 to 5 years. Spring<\/strong> 1975.<\/strong> SECO (Swedish student association) organizes and realizes a Dagswerke (a working day) in aid of the Education Centre. Big concert in Mirto.
\nAutumn 1975. Experimentation in a formal way with 4 children groups from 4 and 5 years and from 2 to 6 years (90 children). <\/strong><\/p>\n

December 1975.<\/strong> Peace Memorial Museum of Hiroshima give a bottle, a bamboo cane and a shingle deformed from atomic to Education Centre in Mirto.
\nFebruary 1976.<\/strong> Meeting of educational experts in Mirto:\u00a0\u00a0 Paulo Freire, Johan Galtung, Olle Edelholm, Ettore Gelpi, Gastone Canziani, Jacques Von\u00e8che, James Bruni, Bodgan Suchodolski, Otto Klineberg, Danilo Dolci.
\n22 March 1977.<\/strong> Local and regional authorities don\u2019t keep promise: Mirto road and bridge are unsafe. Children minibus risks to fall. Centre of Studies and Initiatives Council decide not to re open Mirto if there aren\u2019t warranty security.<\/p>\n

February 1978.<\/strong> People ask development work: tree planting, maintenance service related to the dam etc.<\/p>\n

September 1978.<\/strong> Local and regional authorities start road and bridge rebuilding. Mirto opens again.<\/p>\n

October 1978.<\/strong> Radio broadcast \u201cCitt\u00e0 Terrestre\u201d coordinated by Amico Dolci starts in collaboration with a group to develop an organic plan.
\nSpring 1979.<\/strong> \u201cIl ponte screpolato\u201d, a document on experimentation and difficulty is published by Stampatori Editor\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Torino.
\nLibera Dolci and Renate Zwick examine quality and efficacy experimental work of Mirto. Summer-Autumn 1979.<\/strong> The poetic work \u201cCreatura di Creature by Feltrinelli\u201d is awarded like International Prize Viareggio. For the educational work, in particular for Mirto, \u00a0Sesto San Giovanni awards\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gold\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 medal.

January 1981.<\/strong> Danilo is invited by UCLA, University of Los Angeles, to a seminar on poetry.
\nMay 1981.<\/strong> Laterza Editor publishes \u201cDa bocca a bocca\u201d poem, Mario Luzi\u2019s preface.
\nOctober 1981.<\/strong> Also for 1981-1982 educational work of Mirto is funded by friends\u2019 help, in spite of clear disposition of Bodrato Minister.<\/p>\n

Spring-winter 1982.<\/strong> Boston University Library proceeds to collect Danilo\u2019s books, documents and handwritten and personal correspondence with Aldous Huxley, Bertrand Russel, Erich Fromm and others.
\nExperimentation of maieutic structure<\/em> <\/em>of <\/em>education<\/em> in different Italian schools ( in Mestre, Alessandria, Alba, Piacenza, Imperia, Varese, Agropoli, Linguaglossa, Acireale, Messina)<\/p>\n

October 1983.<\/strong> Nursery school of Mirto is recognized like Experimental State School: our methodology with Rosalba Martinetti and Michael F\u00e4hndrich tenured teachers.
\nSeptember 1984.<\/strong> Road construction in Mirto is finished. It\u2019s officially recognized like consulting Centre (Danilo, Rosalba Martinetti, Elena Norman, Renata Zwick Robino, Piero Cartosio).
\nDecember 1985.<\/strong> We try to make Mirto and Borgo self-managed: if we solve a debt, the initiative will\u00a0 be\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 more \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 free\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 from\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201crulers\u201d.

1988.<\/strong> Centre of Studies and Initiatives is engaged in exploring the concepts of education, creativity, nonviolent development and \u201c creative mutual adaptation\u201d. In this way, the Centre can reorganize and reinvent itself \u201cfor a creative development\u201d: the aim is to solve democratic water and local problems , and to create Maieutic Centre in Italy and in the world. Collaboration with Nino Mangano (Social\u00a0 Pedagogy,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 University\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Messina).
\nJanuary 1989.<\/strong> Sonda editor publishes \u201cDal trasmettere al Comunicare\u201d and the first part of the Draft\u00a0 of\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Manifesto.

1991-\u201994.<\/strong> A deep experimentation of maieutic structure in different Italian school (Elementary School, High School and University) also through annual National Seminar with major experts (in Lorica, in San Nicolas in Val d\u2019Aosta, in Sapienza shelter\u00a0 in Etna).
\nTrappeto Municipality doesn\u2019t go in Centre of Borgo di Dio initiatives. Gigia Cannizzo is elected like major. She is an expert educator. Spring 1995. Seminar in Partinico, Corleone, Alcamo, Palermo with the participation of educator and family.
\n13 May 1996.<\/strong> Degree honoris causa to Danilo Dolci in Educational Science from the University of Bologna.
