{"id":10122,"date":"2016-10-04T11:11:44","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T09:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.danilodolci.org\/?p=3434"},"modified":"2016-10-04T11:11:44","modified_gmt":"2016-10-04T09:11:44","slug":"disability-pride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/events\/disability-pride\/","title":{"rendered":"DISABILITY PRIDE: CSC supports the rights of people with disability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.danilodolci.org\/media\/sites\/5\/DIsability-Pride-Italia-Logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3435\" src=\"https:\/\/en.danilodolci.org\/media\/sites\/5\/DIsability-Pride-Italia-Logo-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"disability-pride-italia-logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The <strong>UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities <\/strong>states:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Respect for inherent dignity, individual autonomy including the freedom to make one\u2019s own choices, and independence of persons;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Non-discrimination;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Full and effective participation and inclusion in society;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Respect for difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Equality of opportunity;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Accessibility;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Equality between men and women;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Respect for the evolving capacities of children with disabilities and respect for the right of children with disabilities to preserve their identities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But is always like this? These rights are actually respected?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Palermo has been the first Italian city to host the Disability Pride, an international event with the aim of claiming the rights enshrined in the 50articles of the <strong>UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The event has been held from 8 to 10 July, at Cantieri culturali della Zisa, in joint with the United States of America and ended with a live video conference from New York with Mayor <strong>Bill de Blasio<\/strong>, to seal the launch of an initiative to be repeated annually and that will gradually involve all countries of the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The event has been attended by numerous associations active at local level in promoting the rights of disabled people, to share experiences and initiatives, discussing the situation of accessibility in our context, the existence of architectural and mental barriers. Among these, the <strong>CSC &#8220;Danilo Dolci&#8221;<\/strong> presented the project <strong>IMPACTS<\/strong>, aimed at promoting opportunities for athletes with disabilities to become coaches and trainers. The resulting impact would be for coaches with disabilities &#8211; as well as the promotion of their employability &#8211; to become real models for people with disabilities and encourage their participation in sport, thus increasing their involvement in society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The meeting was a useful opportunity to make contacts with other organizations and actors working on the same topics but also to introduce the project to potential future beneficiaries.
