{"id":10202,"date":"2018-09-25T09:15:11","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T07:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.danilodolci.org\/?p=4256"},"modified":"2022-03-13T11:50:40","modified_gmt":"2022-03-13T10:50:40","slug":"smiim-reducing-social-isolation-through-intercultural-knowledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/news\/smiim-reducing-social-isolation-through-intercultural-knowledge\/","title":{"rendered":"SMIIM: Reducing social isolation through intercultural knowledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4258 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/smiim-reducing-social-isolation-through-intercultural-knowledge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1919\" height=\"1079\" \/>How to <strong>reduce social isolation<\/strong> and favour <strong>intercultural knowledge<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>How to help <strong>public services <\/strong>to <strong>overcome linguistic barriers in communicating with the foreigners<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>The second meeting of <a href=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/project\/smiim\/\">SMIIM \u2013 Skill to maximise Inclusion through interpreting and Mediation<\/a> project was held on the 10<sup>th<\/sup> and 11<sup>th<\/sup> of September 2018 in Berlin (Germany). SMIIM is the follow-up project of the successful Language Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to Work which was implemented few years ago by the same consortium.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting in Berlin, the partners discussed the innovative on-line platform that will train cultural mediators and interpreters of the future, combined with a series of face-to-face lessons. After the piloting phase of the digital platform that will begin in October 2018 during a training in Palermo, in January 2019 the selection to train 10 mediators will begin in each country.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to make a meaningful contribution to <strong>reducing social isolation<\/strong>, <strong>gaps in intercultural knowledge<\/strong> of the <strong>migrant \/ refugee<\/strong> and the host country public services and <strong>language communication barriers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The project plans the following activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Local events:<\/strong> the project foresees two partner events to promote their activities through invitations to events, presentations to other networking events of local communities;<\/li>\n<li>Two training courses for staff and interpreters \/ cultural mediators to test the on-line platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All partners will test the methods presented during the training, modifying them and developing them according to the needs and constraints observed during the local pilot laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims at obtaining the following results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Implementation of a <strong>web portal<\/strong> to improve the educational offer for students in the field of cultural interpretation and mediation.
