{"id":235344,"date":"2024-05-16T11:20:39","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T09:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/?p=235344"},"modified":"2024-05-16T11:22:44","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T09:22:44","slug":"actdiv-teaching-active-citizenship-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/news\/actdiv-teaching-active-citizenship-school\/","title":{"rendered":"The importance of non-formal methodologies in learning active citizenship at school"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you work as a teacher or educators and wish to actively engage students in the process of learning active citizenship<\/strong>, then <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/project\/actdiv\/\">ACT-DI-V<\/a><\/strong> trainings and resources are for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, the project successfully organized a course dedicated to various school professionals, such as teachers, principals, and pedagogists, <strong>to promote authentic and meaningful civic engagement in the classroom.<\/strong> The training consisted of four sessions, including three online workshops and a final in-person session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1067\" height=\"800\" data-id=\"235339\" src=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/actdiv-foto-articolo-1067x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-235339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/actdiv-foto-articolo-980x735.jpg 980w, https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/actdiv-foto-articolo-480x360.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1067px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Participants were encouraged to be involved in short exercises designed to implement non formal methodologies in teaching active citizenship at school<\/strong>. These exercises were intended to help participants to improve their abilities and skills in creating effective lesson plans focused on citizenship education. This involved a comprehensive group discussion where the participants shared their perceptions of the challenges,&nbsp;dedicated to explaining and discussing the methodologies employed by the consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In particular the focus was on :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Experiential learning<\/strong>: such as community service projects and volunteering, increase empathy, critical thinking, and the sense of responsibility of students. This hands-on approach develop their understanding of societal issues and empowers them to enact positive change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Project-Based Learning<\/strong> (PBL): enables students to tackle real-world challenges collaboratively, fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and decision-making skills. It empowers students to engage civically and make meaningful contributions to their communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;<strong>Debates and discussions:<\/strong> provides platforms for students to explore diverse perspectives on social, political, and ethical issues. By engaging in respectful dialogue and critical inquiry, students develop essential skills for informed decision-making and constructive civic engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Digital citizenship education<\/strong>: guides students in the responsible and ethical use of digital technologies for civic engagement. It teaches them to critically evaluate online information, engage respectfully online, and utilize digital tools for advocacy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Critical Media Literacy<\/strong>: Teach students to critically evaluate media sources, recognize <strong>bias<\/strong>, and analyze how information <strong>shapes<\/strong> public opinion and civic engagement. This empowers them to be informed citizens and discerning consumers of information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Role-Playing and Simulations<\/strong>: Conduct simulations of democratic processes such as elections, legislative sessions, or public hearings.
