{"id":235434,"date":"2024-05-28T11:42:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T09:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/?p=235434"},"modified":"2024-05-28T11:42:51","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T09:42:51","slug":"law-project-rights-duties-citizens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/news\/law-project-rights-duties-citizens\/","title":{"rendered":"Legal literacy at school: know own rights and duties to be active citizens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Integrating basic legal literacy into the civic education programs of European schools is a present-day challenge. <\/strong>According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/en\/project\/law-project\/\">THE LAW PROJECT<\/a><\/strong>, the solution lies in creating innovative educational materials available to <strong>teachers<\/strong> and <strong>students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, educational resources for both <strong>teachers<\/strong> and <strong>students<\/strong> are ready! They are valuable in supporting the study of law and civic education in schools, promoting the development of critical thinking and a sense of social responsibility among young <strong>citizens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, these resources are the result of extensive work, culminating in a testing phase conducted during May 2024. The staff of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/\">Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo &#8220;Danilo Dolci&#8221;<\/a><\/strong> met with <strong>teachers<\/strong> and <strong>students<\/strong> at school. During the meetings, the educational materials developed under the project were presented and tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1063\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-05-14-at-14.15.09-1063x800.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-235428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-05-14-at-14.15.09-980x737.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/danilodolci.org\/media\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-05-14-at-14.15.09-480x361.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1063px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specifically, 7 classes with a total of 130 students participated, to whom the project and materials were first briefly presented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A textbook for students<\/strong> aged 14 to 18 on basic legal literacy;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A teacher&#8217;s manual<\/strong> containing teaching activities on the topic and related to the topics covered in the textbook;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An interactive platform<\/strong> on basic legal literacy that can be used by student\u025c as well as teachers to draw on new activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Afterwards, some practical activities from the textbook were experimented in the classroom to gather any suggestions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The presentation of the educational materials and the implementation of the activities had stimulated the interest and active participation of the students.<strong> The content touches on a wide range of topics<\/strong>, including the basic principles of law, the rights and duties of citizenship, the functioning of democratic institutions, the values of civil coexistence, the virtual world, and rights in the home, school, and family.
