Addressing the growing need for effective strategies against bullying and cyberbullying in schools through active involvement of teachers and students to promote empathy, inclusion and active response to bullying.

Description of the project

In recent years, bullying in schools has evolved to include both physical violence and cyberbullying. This increase in bullying has serious effects on students’ mental health, safety, and academic growth. European schools face challenges addressing these complex dynamics effectively.

Traditional methods of anti-bullying education are limited in impact. Needs analysis conducted in partner countries indicates that bullying is one of the most significant challenges in all European schools and there is a critical need to address the problem through education, awareness, and effective intervention strategies that resonate with today’s students and contemporary social and school environment.

Objectives

  • Develop a comprehensive gamified learning platform for students aged 7-16, designed to engage students in interactive anti-bullying education.
  • Create and implement teacher training programs focused on identifying, addressing, and preventing bullying.
  • Integrate modern technology and interactive learning to effectively combat contemporary bullying, including cyberbullying, in today’s digital age.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the gamification approach in reducing incidents of bullying and improving overall school climate.
  • Promote dialogue between interested third parties and raise awareness of anti-bullying efforts within the school sector.

Activities

  • Nationwide research based on data collection on the current state of bullying and cyberbullying in schools through questionnaires and focus groups with teachers.
  • Curriculum and program development for training workshops.
  • Development of bullying scenarios.
  • Implementation of scenarios in classrooms.
  • Transition of the refined scenarios into an interactive game.
  • Introduction and testing of the gamified scenarios – an interactive game for students based on the bullying scenarios.

Results

Resources

  • Current state of play and needs report, based on national research
  • Teacher training programs and workshops
  • Bullying scenarios and testing within schools
  • Interactive game play, guides, testing – the bullying scenarios gamified on the platform

Impact

  • 100 teachers involved in the first phase of the research
  • 30 teachers for training workshops
  • Trained teachers experience the scenarios on bullying with their classes (involvement of 150 students)

Continued involvement of the same people in various project activities is expected to raise awareness of bullying, promote empathy, inclusion and active response to bullying.
