Language Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to WorkFunded by the Leonardo Da Vinci Programme – TOI (Transfer of Innovation),  “Language Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to Work” (LITSSW) will transfer an innovative and successful language interpreter training course, created and delivered by Dacorum Council for Voluntary Service (working name Community Action Dacorum) in the UK, to partner locations Runi Center in Bulgaria, Iberika in Germany, Active Citizens Partnership in Greece and Centre per lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci in Italy. The interpreter training aims to help with integration and enhance the social inclusion opportunities for immigrants.

The project aims at transferring an innovative methodology of training interpreters to assist individuals with language communication barriers to access public services. In the 24 months of the project the objective will be to develop an EU wide applicable training course for interpreters through the adaptation, transferral and piloting of the interpreter training programme developed in the UK.

The Transfer of Innovation kick off meeting took place in Palermo in Italy from 7th to 8th December 2012. The meeting was held at Centro Per Lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci who are Italian partners to this project. The other partners include Iberika from Germany, Runi Centre from Bulgaria, Active Citizenship Partnership from Greece and Dacorum Council for Voluntary Service from UK who are lead to this project. All the partners were introduced at the initial meeting and shared their work of the organisation. The meeting was over 2 days where action points were agreed by all partners and Work Packages were discussed. The External Evaluator was selected at this meeting. The outline to Interpreter Training short course was discussed with partners which is the key theme to this project.
