Strengthening networks to empower migration professionals

Nov 20, 2025News

The intense flow of migration from Ukraine, a direct consequence of the ongoing conflict, has made clear the urgent need to develop new support initiatives, especially for the many women who leave their homes to move to a new environment. In this context, SHE-UNET works to develop employment-inclusion pathways for Ukrainian migrant women in Europe, and network building is a key element in promoting their participation in the host countries.

Such networks rely on strong connections and collaboration among institutions, organisations, and professionals to facilitate access to services, and to promote a clearer understanding of available resources and opportunities. They thus represent an essential foundation for social inclusion and empowerment.

This is why building and strengthening such a network lies at the heart of SHE-UNET. The project is implementing a series of training activities to equip professionals working in migration support with the skills and knowledge to develop the network in a more integrated and impactful way.

The first of these trainings has just taken place in Sweden, bringing together 19 professionals and leaders coming from the different project’s countries. Over three days, participants explored modules focused on leadership tools and practices that can be applied within their respective organisational and community contexts. The sessions combined theoretical input and hands-on activities, encouraging participants to reflect on their roles as changemakers and to explore how leadership tools can be applied in their professional contexts.

The session began with the concept of trust-based leadership – a model rooted in mutual respect, empathy, and accountability, aimed at fostering collaboration and shared responsibility. Then, moments of analysis and self-reflection, combining group work and interactive exercises on communication strategies, functional group dynamics, and processes of change within organisations and communities.

These moments fostered an intense exchange among professionals from different backgrounds, who shared experiences, reflections and practices related to their local contexts. The dialogue that emerged deepened mutual understanding and laid the basis for a cross-country professional network, enabling participants to continue training and exchanging ideas, tools, and good practices.

The next event will be held in April in Palermo: a new training course for those working in the social sector, enabling them to lead training courses on topics such as career guidance, socio-economic autonomy and participation.
