Promoting initiatives that stimulate an improvement in the citizens’ digital skills is important in order to be able to face the challenges of the future, especially in rural areas where the awareness level of the potential of these skills is still low.
The purpose of the first information session of the OUR DIGITAL VILLAGE project, which was held at the Castle of Salemi on 31st of May, 2023 was to inform about the available opportunities and to present the digital education activities and initiatives aimed at all citizens, that for the next three years will be implemented in the municipalities of Salemi and Gibellina
In order to present the expected results at local level, an information event open to citizens and political representatives was organized. During the first part of the event on overview of the Italian and European situation on digital skills in rural areas was given; subsequently, after presenting the European partnership and the objectives of the project, we talked about the activities planned during the project: the self-analysis laboratories for teachers, students and adults to identify their needs related to digital and soft skills, the co-creation of educational materials to strengthen digital and soft skills and ICT courses that will provide foundations of Coding, Robotics, Microcontrollers, Modeling and 3D printing and Web development.
After answering questions from the audience and discussing the project topics together, the final phase of the event served to allow the participants to share their opinions and experiences on the topic and to talk together during a reception organized with food and drinks. Activities to strengthen digital rural communities will continue in Salemi and Gibellina in the upcoming months. The self-analysis wokrshops open to teachers, students and adults will be active and will serve as a basis for creating educational materials. Thanks to these preliminary activities, from next year ICT courses open to citizens will be active in these territories.
OUR DIGITAL VILLAGE – CO-DESIGNED DIGITAL EDUCATION IN RURAL AREAS is a project financed by the Erasmus + program (Key Action 2: Forward-Looking Projects) and aims to promote a process of community self-analysis in rural areas through Reciprocal Maieutic Approach, to identify the needs of the rural contexts and co-create educational materials for the strengthening of digital and transversal skills.
