RU-MATES is an international training course that took place in Marina di Cinisi from June 24th to July 1st 2023 involving 36 youth workers from Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Iceland, Poland, Macedonia, Slovakia and Portugal.
During the training, all the activites aimed to increase youth worker’s professional and personal skills in the field of active participation and involvement of young people in rural areas, and thanks to the commitment and teamwork, useful results have been produced for youth educators or those who are interested in the topic of non-formal education.
The RU-MATES handbook for youth workers in rural areas provides an overview of the topics covered, a summary of the training experience, and many non-formal activities to be replicated in the context of the development of rural areas and active participation of young people who live there.
Watch the video published on our YouTube channel on the final event of the project which, on June 30th, 2023 involved the local population of Terrasini. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of issues such as youth unemployment, social exclusion, barriers to education, environmental sustainability in rural areas but also to bring to light the positive aspects of living in these areas. During the event, the local community was involved in the creation of videos for the promotion of the area, available on the project’s official Instagram page, together with the digital awareness campaigns created by the participants during the training course.

RU-MATES – MAIEUTIC TOOLS FOR YOUTH SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT IN RURAL AREAS is a project funded by the Erasmus+ program (Key Action 1: Mobility for individuals – Mobility of youth workers) and aims to improve the skills of youth workers through the use of non-formal methodologies such as Reciprocal Maieutic Approach, the emotion management and the use of digital tools to promote effective participation and social inclusion of young people living in rural areas.
