Media, migration and inclusion: tools for responsible communication

May 11, 2026 | News

Migration is one of the most significant global challenges, with a major impact on societies, economies and public debate across Europe. However, the way in which the phenomenon is portrayed plays just as crucial a role as the policies that govern it. This awareness has given rise to Voice of Migration: Future Communicators (VOM), an initiative designed to support young people working in communication and youth educators in developing the skills and tools needed to create informed and responsible content.

Through the use of artificial intelligence to identify misinformation, and courses dedicated to visual communication and ethical journalism, VOM recognises the central role of media literacy and aims to strengthen the fundamental skills required for more accurate and inclusive storytelling.

The planned activities offer opportunities for practical learning; participants are involved in courses that encourage the production of content capable of highlighting the diversity of migration experiences, overcoming stereotypes and prejudices and thus contributing to the strengthening of social cohesion.

Among the initiatives already launched is the production of a series of podcasts dedicated to raising awareness of migration issues. Four episodes are currently available, distributed via various social media channels in the languages of the partners involved — Turkish, German, Bulgarian, Spanish, Greek and Italian — to reach a wide and diverse audience.

Over the coming months, the consortium will continue to develop new audio content, exploring perspectives, tools and practices related to sharing the experiences of migrants and involving organisations active in this field. At least one new episode is scheduled for release each month.

In addition to the audio materials, local and international workshops will be organised in the partner countries, alongside awareness-raising campaigns and media content aimed at promoting an inclusive and respectful view of migration. Among the planned initiatives is also a visual exhibition comprising photographs and ethical videos, which will recount experiences and life journeys through authentic narratives that are sensitive to the people involved.

In parallel, VOM is developing various resources designed to ensure a lasting impact, including training modules, toolkits dedicated to podcast creation, comparative research and a glossary aimed at promoting the correct and ethical use of migration-related terminology.
