On the 6th and 7th of April, the third meeting between the E-DESIGN partners took place online. Due to the global pandemic caused by COVID-19, partners could not meet in person but this did not affect negatively the happening of the third transnational meeting.
The E-DESIGN project aims at increasing social inclusion and combat social inequalities among disadvantaged groups, especially migrants and refugees, through strengthening their digital competences in order to enhance their labour market opportunities and social participation. This is done through the establishment of ICT Training Hotspots, both in the community and in schools, where different courses on ICT-related topics are being implemented, such as Microcontrollers, 3D printing and Web development.
The third transnational meeting was crucial, as many of courses in the ICT Training Hotspots located in schools that are currently closed, and partners needed to be updated and think together about the future of the project. Despite the focus of the courses on digital education and digital skills, many of the organizations prefer not to switch to online courses as the objective of the project is to favour social inclusion through working together, rather than working alone from home. Taken also into account the specific situation of many of the participants, who might not have always access to computers or other necessary materials.
Up to now, in all partner countries ICT Training Hotspots have been established and courses have started. Depending on the specifics of the country, focus might be on the school or on the community. The first feedback of trainers and participants are very positive, and digital competences have increased in all courses offered. In Italy, the first community course has been implemented with success but unfortunately, the second ICT Training Hotspot has to be interrupted when the country went in lockdown. As soon as the school will open, the work will be continued, in Italy and in the other partner countries, in addition to some of the course that have been continued online in other partner countries. In the meantime, partners will work on the finishing touch of all the learning materials so that trainers can start prepared whenever the time is ripe.
Registration for the community course are open, and you will be contacted when the classes start. To participate, write to Vidjaya.thelen@danilodolci.org
