In the context of the project “EDEC- Extending and Developing adult Educators’ Competences,” a report was elaborated by the project partners regarding the current situation of adult education and training systems within their European countries (Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom). This report entitled ” “Report on the Functioning of Adult Education Systems in the Partnering Countries” aims to find the reasons why a good part of the European adult population (between 20-25%) has low logical skills as well as has difficulties in elaborating information.
The project partners took part in several meetings in order to discuss the results and agree on the conclusions of the study. Although each country has some specific issues with regards to national adult education and training system, it is possible to note the following general assets:
- a balanced approach of public-private initiatives;
- official recognition of the importance of this sector;
- customization;
- professionalism of the operators;
- use of professional figures (Skills Brokers);
- training programmes and paths of professional growth;
- information services coordinated at local level.
If we could develop a system that can put together these characteristics, adult education could become really effective in order to develop the lacking skills. For more information, you can read the full version report in the following link.
