On September 21st and 22nd, 2021, the third transnational meeting of the TSITour project – Training on Social Inclusion in Tourism, by including elderly people as local storytellers for the Tourism Industry was held in Athens, Greece.
The TSITour project partnership met in Athens on September 21st and 22nd, 2021 with the online participation of some members of the partnership for reasons related to the health restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The meeting, organized at the end of the second year of the project, marks an important point within the path: the conduction of piloting activities and the final phase of project implementation.
The project was born with the aim of increasing the level of social inclusion of older people by making them bearers of history, culture and traditions linked to local places and, at the same time, supporting the tourism sector by giving tourists more authentic experiences.
The meeting was a moment of sharing occurred during the piloting phase of the new training platform. In fact, during the past months, partners from Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece have started the piloting of the training modules based on the creation of social projects for elderly social inclusion in the role of ‘storytellers’ in the local tourism sector. First, the theoretical part of training was carried out by involving VET students in the field of social services in the design of social intervention projects to promote the social inclusion of the elderly in tourism. Currently, the practical part of the piloting is being carried out: students’ project proposals are put into practice by involving elderly people, social organizations and tourism organizations.
During the meeting, various topics were discussed: the partners took the stock of the situation on the project activities, the next steps and the tasks assigned to each one were discussed. Ideas were presented for organizing upcoming events and for monitoring the quality and impact of the results.
Participants’ opinions were also shared regarding the final publication entitled “VET Module on Project Development for Social Inclusion – Tourism as case study” which will contain the results of the piloting activities and will be disseminated at European level.
TSITour – Training on Social Inclusion in Tourism, by including elderly people as local storytellers for the Tourism Industry is cofunded by the Erasmus + program (Key Action 2: Strategic Partnerships | Vocational Education and Training) and aims to create a new training course in vocational education and training focused on developing storytelling skills in the elderly to socially include them in the society.
