CheckMate: how to combat misinformation and navigate the digital world with awareness

Aug 27, 2024News

How can media literacy contribute to individual awareness and the defense of democracy in a context of increasing insecurity and overproduction of knowledge? CheckMate aims to develop new educational and media literacy methods aimed at adults in order to improve awareness about the use of new technologies, combat misinformation and promote quality information, thus contributing to the defense of democracy.

To this end, the partnership is working on the production of a number of resources, including the Tackling Misinformation and Digital Media Literacy Adult Best Practice Guide, which will soon be available for those who want to navigate the digital world in a safer and more informed way.

The creation of the guide required a research phase that produced some interesting results. We’ve gathered data from official reports, interviews, and in-depth analyses to identify the key skills people need to meet the challenges of the digital world. We’ve pinpointed areas where intervention is most needed and studied the most effective and innovative educational practices to enhance these skills. All this information will soon be compiled and made available in the guide, which you’ll be able to download for free from the project’s website.

One of the most important findings from our research is that media literacy goes beyond just technical knowledge. It’s not just about understanding how social media or search engines work, but also about learning to critically evaluate information, recognize reliable sources, and understand the social and cultural implications of digital media. This is essential in a world that’s increasingly connected and overflowing with information, where distinguishing truth from falsehood becomes more challenging every day.

The guide will offer significant value not only to those working in education but to anyone who wants to improve their ability to interact with digital media in a more informed way. It will serve as a reference for understanding how to navigate news, recognize disinformation, and develop a critical perspective on the content we encounter daily online.

The full results of our research will be published soon, and we believe this guide will be an important step toward a future where everyone can engage with the digital world with greater confidence and understanding.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity! Stay tuned and get ready to download the guide as soon as it’s available. This is just the beginning of a journey that can help you become a more informed and attentive digital citizen
