In order to integrate basic legal literacy into the civic education curricula of European schools, innovative and versatile teaching tools for students of different ages and teachers are essential.
This has been the focus of the work of LAW partners over the past three years, a work that was concluded in Croatia with the organisation of the final partner meeting and the International Conference hosted by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law, between 26th and 27th of September 2024.
The final meeting between the project partners served to reflect together on the conclusion of this fruitful project and the lessons learnt, to finalise the last details for the International Conference and to define the organisation of the last project activity: the organisation of Local Training Events to promote the project results in Croatia, Italy, France and Portugal. These events, which will be organised during the month of October 2024, will be used to present to teachers, educators, educational experts but also to the general public the results obtained during these three years:
- A textbook for students aged 14 to 18 on basic legal literacy, to learn about the legal principles that regulate our lives in the societies in which we live
- A handbook for teachers containing teaching activities on the subject and related to the topics covered in the textbook
- An interactive platform (MOOC) on basic legal literacy, which can be used by students as well as teachers to draw on new activities

The results are already available in 5 languages on the project website, and were previously tested in schools in Italy, Portugal, France and Croatia over the past months to get feedback from teachers and students3 on their effectiveness in promoting basic legal literacy as an integral part of civic education in schools.
The presentation of these activities and results was also the subject of the International Conference at the University of Rijeka, which was attended by various speakers and experts on the topic. In addition to the presentation of project activities and results, the future of law teaching in Europe and legal literacy in educational settings were discussed in plenary session, while round tables with experts and parallel workshops on the topic of legal literacy and civil law were organised.
The event was a great success and aimed to stimulate collective reflection on how to deal with everyday life situations through the application of the law, providing teachers and students with effective tools to support this process by developing fundamental legal skills.
During October 2024 we will be busy organizing the local training event that will take place online. To participate or learn more about the project write to Marta Galvano: marta.galvano@danilodolci.org.
