In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly and influences opinions and daily decisions, how can we equip educators with the necessary tools to tackle this challenge?
MILES sought to answer this question through an intensive three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) session, held on January 22–24, 2025, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The event provided a unique opportunity to explore strategies for media literacy and combating misinformation, bringing together experts and professionals from across Europe.
During the training, participants engaged in lectures, discussions, and interactive activities, delving into the complexities of misinformation and strategies to strengthen media literacy.
The program was structured into five modules, developed based on the guidelines established during the International Workshop in Lisbon in July and refined over the following months:

- Module 1: Introduction to Misinformation and Media Literacy (What)
Definition of key concepts and context to understand the phenomenon of misinformation and the importance of media literacy.
- Module 2: Media Environment and Challenges (What)
Exploration of the current media landscape, its characteristics, and the dynamics that facilitate the spread of misinformation.
- Module 3: Mechanisms of Misinformation (Why)
Analysis of the strategies and mechanisms through which misinformation is created and disseminated.
- Module 4: How to Improve Media and Information Literacy (How)
Presentation of practical tools and strategies to promote media literacy and encourage critical and conscious information consumption.
- Module 5: Community and Policy Initiatives (With Whom)
Discussion on the importance of collaboration among civil society organizations, policymakers, and technology platforms to counter misinformation.

Each module builds on the previous one, providing educators with concrete tools to work with students and promote a culture of critical thinking and responsibility.
The ToT was a valuable opportunity to critically analyze the phenomenon of misinformation and identify effective strategies to address it in schools.
The platform is almost ready to be published in English and will soon be translated into all partner languages. If you are an educator interested in the tools we are developing or if you teach in Palermo and the surrounding area and would like to get involved, contact us—we will guide you through the next steps.
Let’s work together to ensure a deep understanding of the complexities of today’s media landscape and equip future generations with the tools they need to navigate it!
